Liverpool have received a boost with the shock news that Tottenham duo Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele are out of Sunday’s Premier League clash at the London National Stadium, Wembley.
The Reds head to Wembley to take on Mauricio Pochettino’s side this weekend, in what is an exhilarating match of the domestic weekend.
The clash is sure to be an entertaining game between two sides who approach football in a refreshing manner, with Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp two of the most exciting managers around.
Klopp’s side are without long-term absentees Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne, but they Reds’ only injury concerns.
The Merseyside may be missing several key faces, but the same can also be said of Tottenham, with two of their midfielder duo not playing a part this weekend.
Wanyama has only managed two Premier League appearances across all season, and he still hasn’t recovered from an ongoing knee problem.
Dembele, meanwhile will not be in contention to start, despite travelling with the squad to Real Madrid in midweek. The Belgian has a knee injury.
It means that Pochettino is likely to start with English pair Eric Dier and Harry Winks as his central midfielders on Sunday.
Although the duo have impressed in their own way, they don’t possess the dominance of Wanyama and quality of Dembele, which is a boost to Liverpool.
The hosts may well start with the 3-4-2-1 formation that they have used in or late, with Ben Davies available after illness.
The back-three of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen are as formidable as any back-line in the country , and Kieran Trippier and Davies will offer quality from their respective wing-back roles.
With Dier and Winks in the midfield, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli will look to wreak havoc ahead of them, linking up with England international Harry Kane in attack.
Liverpool should see central midfield as an area they can dominate at Wembley on Sunday, with Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Gini Wijnaldum all set to start, despite James Milner‘s excellent performance away to Maribor on Tuesday.
