Leeds United are interested in signing Liverpool’s Danny Ings when the transfer window opens in January, according to the Football Whispers section of ESPN FC.
The football site claim that the one-time England international is a firm target of the Championship promotion hopefuls.
ESPN FC report that Leeds believe that signing Ings on loan in January could help fire them to promotion as well as reigniting the career of the forward.
The 25-year-old’s two-year spell at Anfield has been ruined by two serious knee injuries and Ings has appeared for only 17 minutes in the senior side in the last 11 months for the Reds.
Ings made his comeback as a substitute in Jurgen Klopp’s side League Cup defeat to Leicester City two weeks ago.
What’s good in this for Leeds
Yes, definitely. This is a good move for Leeds. Ings has an impressive scoring record and was one of the most in-demand strikers in the country before quitting Burnley, where netted 43 goals in 130 matches. Ings Liverpool career has not going but he is still young enough and, crucially, good enough to make a big impact in the Premier League. Danny Ings joining Leeds United would be the best since slice bread.
How likely is this going to happen?
Ings is tied with Liverpool until 2020 and it has been reported that he could be allowed to leave the club on loan in January in order to build up his fitness and play first-team football. The Whites would need to present a strong case to Ings, as well as negotiating a deal with the Reds. The Daily Star report that Ings’ current deal is worth £60,000-a-week, and the Yorkshire giants would need to pay a significant portion of his wages.
Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke are all undeniably ahead of him in Klopp’s plan, and who knows which attackers Klopp may attempt to bring to Anfield in the future.
The next couple of months are likely to be telling when it comes to forecasting the next chapter in Ings’ career.
Matches will come thick and fast for Liverpool, both in the league and in Europe, and if Danny Ings keeps watching from the stands, a January exit will become increasingly likely, if not the summer.
