Leeds United have been handed a massive boost ahead of their Championship game against Millwall on Saturday, with the news that team captain Liam Cooper will be fit to play.
The Whites go into game at the Den as league leaders after a brilliant start to the season, and will be hoping to keep their performance going with another win in London.
Liam Cooper is carrying a slight injury and he was substituted in the 2-0 win against Birmingham on Tuesday in the 69th minute of the match.
Thomas Christiansen’s side didn’t have a centre-back on the bench and Luke Ayling moved across, with Gaetano Berardi starting on the right for the Whites.
However, Christiansen said, as quoted in the Yorkshire Evening Post, “He’s okay. If we started the [Birmingham] game again now then he could not play but he will be ready for Saturday.”
F/W’s view
Liam Cooper coming back from injury is really a great news for the Whites ahead of a game that could cement them as Championship leaders. Millwall are sitting in the 19th place in the Championship and are there to be beaten but beating them at the Den is never easy. However, Christiansen’s side are on a charge and there’s real belief and team spirit in the camp. Having the captain back for Saturday’s game will give them a lift and provide some stability in central defence.
In other news, Andrea Radrizzani has sent a triumphant message to the Leeds supporters after 2-0 win in the Championshop against Birmingham, hailing the new “team spirit”.
