Adam Lallana suffered a thigh injury on Wednesday night during an Audi Cup preseason friendly between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. Lallana was substituted in the 87th minute of the match after pulling up with an upper leg injury.

The 29-year-old is the second Liverpool player to go down with an injury during the preseason. Last week, Daniel Sturridge suffered a very similar ailment against German giants Bayern Munich. Fortunately, Liverpool won that match when they defeated the Bundesliga giants 3-0.

Liverpool have enjoyed a very brilliant preseason campaign, which is more than Carlo Ancelotti’s side can say for themselves. Unfortunately for Lallana, the Reds lost to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on Wednesday when he was hurt.

Manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he will miss “a couple of months” with the injury. His side will take on Athletic Bilbao in Dublin tonight to complete up their preseason campaign. The recent defeat to Atletico came through penalties after a 1-1 draw.

This injury has pretty serious implications for Liverpool. The Anfield giants now have two starting players injured going into the 2017-18 season, with his injury seemingly more long term than his teammates’ injury.

He will miss England national team World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania in September. Lallana will also miss huge Liverpool’s Premier League matches against Arsenal and Manchester City in the first couple months of the season.

He has played for the National Team on 33 occasions, and is a regular starter for the new Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate. Hopefully the injury won’t be as serious as team doctors suspects, because the Liverpool midfield will suffer without him.

Emre Can will probably fill in for him while he is resting and recovering.
