After a fairly poor season debut season in English football, Pep Guardiola looks set to make a big statement in the summer transfer market as he bids to improve his Manchester City side.
They’ve already signed Bernardo Silva from Monaco, as has Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson from Benfica, but one area that is yet to be improved is in defense.
Guradiola’s primary area of defensive improvement is on the flanks were City were noticeably weaker than their rivals in 2016/17.
The likes of Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy are simply not good enough for a club or there stature, leading to the Spanish boss being linked with a whole host of players across Europe.
One of those is Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, who has been severally linked with a £50m move to the Etihad but the proposed move appears to have cool off in recent weeks.
However, the former Bayern Munich boss may have found the right bargains in order to sign one of his top targets with The Sun reporting that the North London club will be much more willing to sell if they can get Kelechi Iheanacho in return.
The Nigerian international wants to leave the Etihad this summer after falling behind Sergio Agustin and Gabriel Jesus in the pecking order.
Iheanacho bagged 14 goals across all competition last season and was subject of a £20m bid from Leicester, one which was accepted by the Citizens.
Nevertheless, if the club believe sending the 20-year-old to White Hart Lane will allow the Premier League giants to get Walker, Guardiola’s side will sell to their EPL rival.
On paper, the deal would represent excellent business for Mauricio Pochettino’s men who are yet to make a signing this summer.
The north Londoners are known to be in the market for a new striker to act as a backup for Harry Kane and they could potentially land one of the game’s brightest prospects along with a nice cash sum.
With Kieran Trippier already there to fill in for Walker, Spurs would be wise to pursue the deal if it is on the table.
