After it was revealed that Antonio Conte’ Chelsea have entered the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, we look at the Chilean options where he’s likely to end up now.
Real Madrid
The 12-time European Champions are expected to sell James Rodriguez and Isco this summer, so they will need to reinforce in the forward positions. Their La Liga giants focus though is on Eden Hazard and Sanchez’s Barca connection could count against him.
Barcelona
Sanchez spent three years at Barca between 2011 and 2014, and has been linked with a return back to the Nou Camp. Barca though will probably decide they do not need another striker given they already boast Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola signed the Chilean in 2011 when the duo enjoyed one season they worked together. Guardiola would love to have the forward at City, but is aware of Arsenal’s reluctance to sell to a Premier League rival.
Bayern Munich
Alexis could have been forgiven during Arsenal’s 10-2 aggregate mauling by the Bundesliga champions for looking over at the opposition and longing to be playing for them. Bayern’s boss Carlo Ancelotti has no real need for another big-name striker given his strong forward line, but they still retain an interest in the Chilean.
Juventus
Playing in the Serie A wouldn’t seem hard for Sanchez as he enjoyed some brilliant run with Udinese from 2006–2011. However, with Juve signing Gonzalo Higuain for big money move from Napoli last summer show they have the financial clout to complete with the biggest sides in Europe again. The Serie A club are interested in him and will do all they can to make him their marquee signing this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain
The French club have long been linked with Sanchez, and would easily have the financial muscle to afford his fee and wages. Lining up with the likes of Angel di Maria, Julian Draxler and Edinson Cavani might appeal Sanchez, but he’ll likely want to remain in one of European’s four biggest leagues.
Chelsea
The Premier League champions have emerged as the favourites to sign Sanchez after he said last week that “I’d like to stay in London but with a team that’s winning things”. The main obstacle will be Arsenal’s huge resistance to selling to a main rival, especially one as loathed as the Blues.
