Liverpool have reportedly been keeping an eye on AC Milan’s full back Mattia De Sciglio as the Reds look to add more depth to their defense this summer. The 24-year old defender is critically acclaimed in Italy with many big names in pursuit of his signature, and Liverpool will have to go the extra mile to add him to the squad at Anfield. However, considering his amazing defensive skills, he will be worth the buy.
A product of AC Milan academy, Sciglio had his first team debut back in 2011 and has been consistent for the side ever since. However, with the legendary Serie A club recent fall from grace, it has been hard to keep hold of their players in the past few years and Sciglio’s case seems to be going in the same direction.
De Sciglio is technically outstanding as most Italian enforcers are, but his vision gives him an edge over all others. At only 24, Sciglio is one of the most intellectual players around. He can also play comfortably on the left side due to his ability with his left foot. A versatile player, fast runner with good technique; he has been praised for his precocious display for Milan and the Italian national team by teammates and pundits alike. All this makes him an incredible prospect.
At 183cm, he is physically prevalent in the air and can hold the ball well. He has made 131 appearances for Milan and lack of good players to compliment his skill on the pitch has affected his productivity negatively. He has 23 appearances this season and according to reports by Calciomercato, a move from San Siro is on the horizon.
His contract with Milan is valid till the summer of 2018 and he is unlikely to extend his deal. Italian will be forced to cash in on him at the end of the season rather than risking a free transfer next year. The player has reportedly refused to extend his deal with the club and this has the Serie A defending Champions and league leaders, Juventus, on high alert.
His worth is stipulated at €10 million, which would not be a problem for any club. With Napoli also among the numerous club hoping take him off the market, the defender will have the luxury to to choose his club his summer. Bayern Munich are also in pursuit of him as a replacement for Phillip Lahm.
Liverpool will surely not find it easy and they would have to ensure a place in the Champions League to entice him. The Reds are currently at the third place on the Premier League table, three points ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United are also vying for the spot.
