Romelu Lukaku made headlines last night with regards to his future. The Everton striker, according to Sky Sports, rejected a new contract deal worth £140,000/week from Everton. This would be the first time the Merseyside club has made such a huge offer for any player.
The Belgian forward made 27 league appearances this season, netting 19 goals, tying him with top scorer Harry Kane. Everton fans are bound to be disappointed with the news as he’s been instrumental in the club’s success. Despite the star striker’s agent previously confirming his client would definitely be renewing his contract, the opposite seems to be the case and the striker seems to be on his way out of Goodison Park. As a young much sought-after player demanding a fee above £60m, we take a look at clubs that would be willing to add him to their team:
3. Borussia Dortmund
This could likely be Pierre Aubameyang last season with the Thomas Tuchel’s side. Aubameyang’s absence in the club would leave the German club short of striker. There have been speculations that the Belgian would be joining Tuchel when he was spotted touring Dortmund’s training facilities last year but his agent agent advised him against the move, imploring him to continue with the Toffees for another season.
The move to Westfalenstadion would be wise but the asking price might be an hindrance. Borrussia Dortmund’s most expensive signing was Andre Schurrle at £25.5m and this is just a fraction Romelu’s worth.
2. Liverpool
Ever since Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona, the void left by his absence has not been filled. With Jurgen Klopp not trusting the capability of Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool direly needs a new striker.
Lukaku, with 79 professional goals at just 23, has shown his capability he can be utilized in any tactical system. The Belgium international’s strength would make him a perfect fit for Klopp’s prepossessing system that takes the whole of a player’s strength.
1. Arsenal
Alexis Sanchez got converted to a striker but in spite of this, there is still something missing in the Gunners’ attack. To be a strong contender next season, Arsenal must find a way to bring in goals at all turn. At the moment, Wenger’s preferred front 3 is; Alex Iwobi, Alexis Sánchez & Theo Walcott. but only two of those three have proved effective.
Alexis Sanchez has scored 17 premier League goals and set up 9 assists, Theo Walcott has netted 8 goals and 2 assists in 20 league appearances. Alex Iwobi on the other hand has only scored 3 goals throughout this season. His inefficiency needs to be checked. If Arsenal were to agree to a deal with the 23-year-old, he could take up Iwobi’s position which would raise Wenger’s hope of title winning.
