Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had maintained that he will still be a manager next season be it Arsenal or somewhere else but the Gunners boss has now revealed he wants to stay in football management for four more years and has indicated that he would like to extend his spell at the London club. That could be bad news for Arsenal fans.
Wenger has spent more than twenty years at the helms of affairs at Arsenal but has not found the second half of his tenure rosy and has been subjected to heavy criticisms which were heightened by his side 5-1 crushing by Bayern Munich.
His future has been up in the air with his current contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign. He is under serious pressure to step down from his post following the club’s humiliating defeat in the Champions League – which has put them on the brink of exiting the competition at this stage for the seventh consecutive season – and they are also 10 points behind Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.
But the 67-year-old French boss seems undeterred by all that and he wants to emulate old rival Sir Alex Ferguson- who retired in 2013 at the age of 71 – by managing into his seventies and even longer than the former Man United manager.
The former Monaco boss also said he will make decision on his future next month or in April. Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Tuchel, Newcastle’s Rafa Benitez, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, Juventus’s Massimiliano Allegri and Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe are among those being considered to replace him.
