Another humiliating showdown with Bayern Munich again shows Arsenal needs a major overhauling of their squad if they hope to ever win trophies again. The fault obviously lies with the team manager Arsene Wenger and his loyalty to substandard players.
Whoever replaces Wenger would have to consider rebuilding the team from scratch as there is no other way to take the team back to their old winning ways.
Examining the Gunners team, Alexis Sanchez and Laurent Kolscielny are well above average. Sanchez is a quality centre-half and helps in holding down the team’s weak defense but he fades in comparison with Fabio Cannavaro who Wenger claims can be likened to the Chilean.
Wenger has been interested in Schalke’s Sead Kolasinac and with Arsenal’s budget likely not exceeding £85 million this summer, it would be a smart move.
With Petr Cech having a decline in performance, Kasper Schmeichel would be the best option to reinforce the goalkeeping department.
Major work needs to be done in the midfield as it remains Arsenal most defective area. Granit Xhaka needs to put his aggression under control and Francis Coquelin needs more focusing. The duo needs to be done away with. Mesut Ozil on the other hand, can only be counted on if he is surrounded by better skilled players
Aaron Ramsey has never had an impact with the team and Santi Cazorla’s contract is gradually coming to an end.
Paris Saint-German’s Adrien Rabiot possess a much-needed mix of technique and physique while Fabinho has been a key player for Monaco this season.
Rabiot’s demand would be considerably high given he is a sought-after player but he would be willing to consider a move to England going by the fact that his agent had negotiation with Arsenal last year. Many clubs have also approached Fabinho likewise.
Arsenal’s interest in Marco Rues has gone cold as the German international spends more time off the pitch than on it due to injury.
Andre Bellotti would be a perfect No.9 for Arsenal. The Italian has been named the most complete young striker in Europe, but his release clause of £85m would be a hindrance. To maximize their budget, the Gunners might go for Andre Silva. The 21-year-old could be what Arsenal has been waiting for.
Rabiot, Fabinho and Silva might not be lead Arsenal to reclaim their lost glory but they would definitely be a step up from the current squad. It is better to take a risk on these three than to continue failing.
