Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will not mind selling Anthony Martial in the summer if he has his way. The French forward enjoyed a wonderful debut season in England last season and was United top scorer, but he has been limited this season and faced serious criticism from the Portuguese boss.

He has started only nine Premier League matches, and has not featured in any of the last three, fuelling rumours that the 21-year-old attacker will be sold in the summer. Martial has debunked claims he wants to leave the club, but Mourinho is known for selling performing players at any club he arrives.

Here are some players sold by Mourinho who have proved him wrong:

Juan Mata (Chelsea to Man United 2014)

The Spanish midfielder was named Chelsea Player of the Year twice before the return of Mourinho to Stamford Bridge but faced serious criticism from the coach and was eventually sold in January to Man United. He has become an integral member of the Red Devils and even constantly utilized by the Portuguese.

David Luiz (Chelsea to PSG 2014)

The Brazilian defender was sold to PSG at a high fee but returned to become a thorn in the flesh of the Blues, scoring the goal knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League in 2015 and was also part of the team that defeated them in the same competition a year later. And since his return to Stamford Bridge he has formed the heart of an impressive defence for the team this season.

Kevin De Bruyne (Chelsea to Wolfsburg 2014)

The Belgian midfielder’s sale was arguably Mourinho biggest mistake. He was sold to Wolfsburg six months into Mourinho’s second spell at Chelsea but returned to England after one and half years in Germany and has been a revelation for Manchester City since then.

Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea to Everton 2014)

Mourinho never really seemed to have faith in the Belgian forward. He was loaned out to West Brom and Everton before he was eventually sold to the Toffees. Now Chelsea are linked with a move for him almost every transfer window and will cost them a fortune.

Ezequiel Garay (Real Madrid – Benfica 2011)

After making 23 appearances in his debut season at Madrid he was cast out by Mourinho when he resumed as manager the following season and was sold to Benfica in 2011. He has now developed into one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe and a target for the Old Trafford outfits.
