Arsenal’s and Switzerland international Granit Xhaka has been questioned by the metropolitan police after he allegedly abused an airline staff member at Heathrow on Monday night.
The 24-year-old midfielder was said to have gone to drop off his friend, who had come to visit him in London, back to the airport.
His friend, Leonard Lekaj, a German sixth division footballer, was refused entry after he failed to meet up with the check-in-deadline.
It is at this point that the incident was triggered.
Arsenal have refused to release a statement regarding the matter claiming it is both a private and police matter.
A metropolitan police statement read: “Police were called at 19:29 GMT on Monday, 23 January following an allegation that a member of staff had been racially abused at Heathrow Airport, Terminal Five.
“The allegation was made by a third party. Officers attended and spoke with a man in his 20s. He was not arrested. He voluntarily attended a west London police station where he was interviewed under caution. Enquires continue.”
