The Gunners title race has stuttered in the last few weeks which saw them dropping out of the top four. Thanks to goal from Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez that reignited their title challenge with a deserving 4-0 win over Swansea at the Liberty stadium, condemning Paul Clement to an embarrassing defeat in his first Premier League game in charge.
Despite the win catapulting them back into the top four, it was marred by another Alexis Sanchez show as the Chilean showed his displeasure at being substituted with 11 minutes remaining. His actions keep fuelling his imminent exit from the club.
Arsenal had to wait till the 37 minutes before they find a breakthrough as Swansea defence kept them at bay. Olivier Giroud took advantage of Mesut Ozil blocked header to his side ahead. The Frenchman has now scored in each of his last nine starts, scoring 11 goals in total and 13 goals from 18 shots on target.
Their second and third goals had an element of luck in them. Alex Iwobi’s strike in the 54th minutes took a huge deflection off Jane Cork and looped over Lukasz Fabianski into the net. Kyle Naughton scored Swansea second own goal in the 67th minute when diverted another shot from Iwobi into his own net.
Alexis Sanchez capitalized on some slack defending and added the fourth to lift Arsenal up to the third position on the table. The win was Arsenal’s first away win in four attempts after losing two and drawing one of their last three matches on the road.
