Tottenham produced arguably their best performance so far this against Chelsea on Wednesday at White Hart Lane. Contrary to expectations, Spurs inflicted Chelsea’s first defeat in 14 matches on them, they dominated the match and ran out 2-0 winners.
Muaricio Pochettino’s men deserved to be credited for that performance and the result will not only boost their confidence but also give hope to other title contenders.
The Blues would have been eight points clear at the top of the table and it would have been a little difficult for their title rivals to
catch up with them. But their loss has thrown the title race opened once again.
With that result it now seems somehow difficult to write-off any team in the top six.
Liverpool will be the happiest with the result and will be aiming to
take advantage of that opportunity to relaunch their title bid. But
they face a serious test against a resurgent Man United in the league on January 14. Jose Mourinho’s men are 10 points off the top spot and going by their current form, one would not want to write them off yet.
Man City will also be hopeful again after overcoming a temporary
setback and bounced back with a 2-1 over Burnely despite being down to 10 men. They have lost three and won three of their last six matches but have been boosted by Chelsea’s loss.
Arsenal may have dropped points against Bournemouth in their last match but they are not too off the pace. The Gunners had to fight back from 3 goals down to earn a point and they are fifth on the table with 41 points, eight points off Chelsea.
Tottenham too are not to be looked down on after forcing their way
back into the top four while Chelsea, despite the loss, still look
good for the title.
