According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could agree a £50m deal with Bayern Munich for Jerome Boateng.  Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted the 29-year-old could be on his way out of the Allianz Arena this summer, and United are hoping they can convince him to ply his trade at Old Trafford next season as manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a stellar centre-back to bolster his squad.

Boateng joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2011 and has gone on to make 258 appearances in all competitions for the German giants. He’s won six Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokals and one Champions League trophy in his seven years with the club but could be seeking a new challenge. Bayern will let him go for £50m and United could capitalise.

Mourinho could be losing Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo this summer, with the pair having been used sparingly last season and having only 12 months remaining on their respective contracts. Victor Lindelof had an inconsistent debut season at Old Trafford too, so the Red Devils could be in need of more than one defensive reinforcement.

Boateng won’t come cheap, however, and there’s little resale value given his advancing age, so United have a lot to ponder before lodging an official bid.
