According to Top Calcio via The S*n, Manchester City could agree a £39m deal with Valencia for Joao Cancelo. The right-back is believed to be the subject of a bid from the Sky Blues and could provide back-up for Kyle Walker next season – raising doubts about the future of Danilo.

Cancelo joined Valencia from Benfica in 2015 and has gone on to make 91 appearances in all competitions. The Portuguese international spent last season on loan with Inter Milan, racking up 28 games across the board, and could be on the move again this summer.

Despite having Danilo as back-up for Walker at right-back, City have made an approach for Cancelo and will have all summer to negotiate a deal as he won’t be at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Sky Blues aren’t the only side keen on his signature, however, with Juventus and Wolverhampton Wanderers also interested. Chelsea and Tottenham were linked with Cancelo a year ago too.

City manager Pep Guardiola has Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy as his first-choice fullbacks, with Danilo and Fabian Delph able to deputise for the pair respectively. Signing Cancelo would mean more depth in defence, perhaps allowing Delph to stay as a midfield option and Danilo as a left-back replacement instead, but there’s been nothing confirmed yet.
