At Old Trafford, the left-back position has been a problematic area for the club for quite some time and now and if latest reports bears fruit, Manchester United are believed to be considering a swoop move for Kieran Tierney.
The 20-year-old Douglas, Isle of Man born made his competitive senior debut for Celtic on 22 April 2015 under manager Ronny Deila, coming on as an 81st-minute substitute in a Scottish Premiership match against Dundee. He made one further first team appearance that season, playing over an hour in a league match away at St Johnstone.
As far as situation at the club goes, the Red Devils have Ashley Young doing very good at left-back and Luke Shaw is back form his season-ending injury and even played a couple of times for the club. That being said, there is no denying that the Old Trafford club are yet to find a natural player for that position and one might even say the club have been ripped apart since Patrice Evra left for Italian champions Juventus for an initial £1.2m fee back in 2014.

However, with the January window now on its full wings, it does not seem like the right time for the club to make an investment to truly strengthen the defence. Although Young seems like the right option in the sense that the England international can combine pace with defensive solidity, the fact is that Young does not seem like a viable option for the long run.
The Celtic star can learn and work with Young to develop his talent at the Old Trafford and take over from him eventually. As far as Shaw is concerned, there’ve been reports that he is set to leave the club either this January or over the summer, even after putting pen to paper on a deal. Shaw did show profitable performances when he first joined from Southampton but ever since he got injured, the Englishman has struggled with fitness quite a it.
A player like Tierney could vastly benefit the United side. The Celtic youngster is quite versatile and can play in left midfield or play as a central defender. This could truly provide some depth for the squad in general and the youngster is also known to contribute to the attack while surging forward.
He has scored two goals and provided four assists for the Bhoys so far this season and is likely to be a valuation addition to Jose Mourinho‘s squad, not only for the present but also for the years to come.
