Celtic’ manager Brendan Rodgers highly appreciates Kieran Tierney, and it is hard to expect he would permit this transfer in January.
According to the Daily Mirror, Premier League club Manchester United are looking to bring Celtic’s defender Kieran Tierney to Old Trafford in case the Red Devils fail to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose. The Hoops’ estimation of the player is about £25 million.
The Red Devils’ boss Jose Mourinho is not happy with the performances of Luke Shaw and Daley Blind and is considering to bring a quality left-back in January transfer window.
Rose has been identified as a primary target, but the former Southampton defender’s £50 million price tag forced the Portuguese boss to consider other alternatives.
Tierney is a combative left-back, known for his high pace and physical strength. The Scotland Under-19 international is also capable of playing as a central defender. Though he’s 20, he has established himself as an undisputed first-team player during the last two seasons for Celtic.
Elsewhere, Callum McGregor via Daily Record last night urged Moussa Dembele to hang around for a new double Treble with Celtic.
And the Parkhead revealed he believes the French striker wants to remain at Parkhead for the remainder of the season, despite plenty of English teams looking to sign Dembele.
Premier League side Brighton are leading the race in a £20million swoop and while the Frenchman will leave the Scottish champions at some point in the future, he is not convinced it’ll be this month.
The 21-year-old is training as normal with Brendan Rodgers’ men in Dubai and McGregor thinks the lure of more success at the end of this season means no-one is itching to get away from the tight-knit Hoops group.
McGregor said:
“It comes to the point where you are part of a successful team and that’s what you want it to stay like, being successful.
“A lot of players will never win anything in their careers and you have a massive chance here at Celtic to win a lot of trophies, be successful and have that against your name.
“That’s obviously going to be a big draw for players like him (Dembele).
“It’s just about him wanting to be here to kick on, work hard and be part of this group. Obviously, all the boys love him and want him to stay and to be part of it.
“I don’t think he’ll be thinking of going anywhere.
“In the main, everyone is focused on being here and I don’t think they are thinking about getting away.
“They just want to keep being successful and staying part of this group.
“We’re all good lads who want to do well and work hard for each other. That’s important.
“You think back to the Aberdeen game up there where he was unplayable. He looked like a real top player.
“If we can get him playing like that every week, it’s obviously great for the group going forward and to win things.
“Last season was so special that it brought the boys even closer together.
“If we can kick on then we could potentially do it again.
“We need the group to stay focused and stay hungry, but when you feel part of a successful team, that’s where you want to stay, you want to keep being successful.
“It’s a special place to be and I think all the boys recognize that.”
As well as Dembele, there are also reports linking players such as Kieren Tierney, Jozo Simunovic and Stuart Armstrong from south of the border.
But no Scottish club in history has ever won back-to-back Trebles. And, although McGregor refused to single that feat out as any kind of specific target, the Scottish just wants the team together and continue making magical memories.
He said:
“We’ve just got to keep setting markers for us as a group.
“We’ll be looking to take all the hard work we’re putting in this week into the second half of the season when we go back and we want to really kick on.
“We don’t to mention Trebles and all that again.
“It would be an incredible achievement.
“I think back to last year and how big an achievement that was, winning the Treble. If we could go and do it again that would be something really special.
“But we can only look at the next game when we’re back.
“The way we got success last season was by preparing properly for every game and taking them as they come. We’ll then see where that takes us.
“We definitely have more to achieve as a group. That’s the key here and how the manager wants to work.
“He’s always striving to be better. Even if we win 3-0, he wants us to win by four or five. That’s just the way he is and it’s transferred over to the players.
“For me there’s more to come and we’re striding on to get better.”
