Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly lining up January bids for megastars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Virgil van Dijk, according to the Daily Express.

The British newspaper claims Reds boss is preparing to bring in three new players to Anfield in the winter transfer window next month in order to stay in touch in the Premier League title race.

The Express report that Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang, along with Southampton centre-back Van Dijk and a new goalkeeper are on the wanted list of the Anfield boss.

It is said that the Reds are preparing a bid for the latter as the possibility goes that Daniel Sturridge could be on his way out of the club next month in search of regular first-team football.

F/W’s view

Liverpool would think Santa Clause was real if their Christmas present was the arrivals of a trio stars, including Van Dijk and Aubameyang. In fact, the club would settle for just one of the three, given that the last major January signings made by American owners FSG were Philippe Coutinho and Sturridge himself in 2013. The chances of Van Dijk joining Liverpool has been on the agenda for a long time, but there has never been a sense that signing Aubameyang was ever a genuine possibility.

The Gabon goal poacher has been in hot water at Dortmund this season but it is hard to see the Bundesliga giants selling such a key player in the middle of the season. The Gabon forward’s goal record remains extraordinary, 17 from 19 appearances this season after 40 in 46 appearances last season, and 39 goals from 49 matches in 2015-16 season – Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Dortmund. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is like a quick version of Harry Kane. Surely, such a major deal cannot be done next month.
