West Ham United reportedly feel that they will sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho in the coming week.
According to the Mirror, it claimed that the Hammers expect to complete the £36million swoop imminently and officials have been in talks after an initial £27.1million bid was rejected.
It is understood that Slaven Bilic’s side have made up the difference with performance-related bonuses for the 25-year-old.
The report details that the Portuguese man is keen on a move to the London Stadium and was left out of Sporting’s side at the weekend.
Carvalho would become the sixth new signing at West Ham this summer if he completes his move and would be the best of the bunch.
Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart, Maro Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Sead Haksabanovic have completed their move to West Ham in the transfer window.
However, Euro 2016 winner Carvalho is the perfect addition needed in the Hammers squad and will slot straight into the starting XI.
West Ham learnt in the defeat to Manchester United on Sunday that their midfield is lightweight and they were completely overrun.
They would be a completely different outfit if they had powerful defensive midfielder in the form of Carvalho in the centre of the park.
Carvalho has top level experience on the European stage and would be a superb signing to improve the team.
Carvalho’s proposed move to West Ham has picked up speed and seems more and more likely to be completed by the day.
The 25-year-old has been monitored by some big clubs in the past and it’s a major shock that one of the Premier League giants have not snapped up the midfield powerhouse.
West Ham are set to benefit as a result and it looks like Carvalho could now join in a club-record £36million deal.
Bilic has received huge financial backing in the summer and the club must be aiming for a European spot in the new campaign.
