At the start of the season both Liverpool and Manchester City were considered strong enough to lift the Premier League title and they were leading the table back in September and October. But Man City have dropped out of the title race and the Reds are almost following suit.

Liverpool have seen their season crumbled under their watch. Jurgen Klopp had aimed to build a competitive team but all that seems to be history now as they have moved from a competing team to that of one struggling.

They were backed by different quarters to win the league but they have experienced a downward turn since the start of the second half of the season.

They endured a difficult period recently, losing three matches within a week in the Premier League, EFL and the FA Cup, exiting the last two competitions. The Reds welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Tuesday in a match that end their season finally title-wise or resurrect it.

Liverpool defeated Antonio Conte’s men back in September inflicting the Blues first defeat of the season but they are now 10 points behind the league leaders.

After their second successive defeat which was against Arsenal, Chelsea have earned 15 victories in 16 games, having a firm grip at the top of the table. A win for Liverpool will reduce the gap at the top to five but the Reds will still be seven points adrift the top.

Reds forward Saido Mane may be available for the match after his country, Senegal exit from the on-going Africa Cup of Nations. It is reported that Liverpool have sent a private jet to bring the attacker back to England. His return may bolster their attack.
