Former Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has drawn the curtain on his 26 years managerial career.

The 65-year-old former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach made the announcement on Monday after receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Dutch government, citing family issues as the reason for his retirement.

Van Gaal was appointed United coach in the summer of 2014 on a three-year contract but was sacked after two seasons in charge following series of poor performances and results. His sack came just hours after winning the FA Cup last season and was replaced by Jose Mourinho.
