Two second half goals from Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued Man United winning run as they defeated West Ham United 2-0.
Seems Jose Mourinho has found his magical touch again and Man United also are begining to build momentum with the aim of finishing in the top four – which looks more realistic than winning the league.
Man United moved level on points with fifth-placed Tottenham, who faced Chelsea on Wednesday, and stretched their unbeaten run to 13 in all competitions- their longest run since March 2013 (18) under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The match, which was the third time both clubs have met this season, was marred with controversies of the Hammers’ Sofiane Feghouli being sent off and Ibrahimovic scoring United’s second from what appeared to be an offside position.
United were given a run for their win by West Ham who have not lost at home in their last four matches. The Reds were unable to find a way past the Hammers solid defence despite going a man down from the 15th minute.
With the match ending scoreless at half time, Mourinho’s decision to bring on Mata and Marcus Rashford proved to be the turning point as both combined for the opening goal as Mata broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute.
Ibrahimovic continued from where he finished last year. The Swede forward who scored 50 goals in 2016 added the second of the match from an offside position. He has now scored 12 goals in his last 12 games and 18 in total, one more than United’s top scorer last season, Anthony Martial.
