Theo Walcott was linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer after failing ti live up to expectations in the last three seasons. The North London club were linked with a number of players like Macro Reus, Riyad Mahrez and Julian Draxler as his potential replacement.
Last season was so bad for him that he did not even make the England squad that competed at the EURO 2016 in France. But surprisingly, the former Southampton man has been impressive this season.
It had been said that the English attacker was being played out of position and that could have been responsible for his slow progress at Arsenal but since he settled for the right wing, after a reported long discussion with Arsene Wenger, he has been fantastic, showing the potentials that have been missing years back.
What could have been the secret behind his resurgence? From a player that was labelled “England reject” for missing the EURO 2016 to a player that is now given defenders nightmares.
It is obvious his work rate has increased he now goes for the ball, makes tackles and no more aimless crosses. Years back, he was always in constant fear of injury but he has overcome that now, beaming with confidence. He has made more tackles than he did in his last two seasons.
He has scored 9 goals and provided 2 assists. He is now aiming to reach the double figures before December 25 as his wife who just delivered their second child has promised him a coffee machine if he could do just that.
Since 2013/2013 when Robin Van Persie left for Man United, Walcott’s goal tally has not reached the double. That season the 27-year-old scored 21 goals in all competitions.
However, one can only hope his recent form will last the whole season as this is not the first time he would start a season strong, losing form at the turn of the second half of the season. we can only wish this season would be different.
