Of the top six clubs; Man United lag behind in creativity, performance, attack, and defence. Watching them play has become an eyesore, not to talk of their epileptic results. In fact the current squad has failed to live up to expectations of United player we are all used to, the presence of the world most expensive player, Paul Pogba notwithstanding.
It is as if the fear factor and creativity departed with Sir Alex Ferguson when he retires in 2014. High-profile players like Angel Di Maria have been brought in but failed to produce the performance worthy of their prices.
Over £150 million was spent in the summer to bolster the team but none of the additions has really added anything to the team. A major clear-out is expected in the winter transfer window and more players may come in. But what has been the benefits of signing these players without them putting up the performance that doesn’t correlate with their purchase price. Could it be the coaching system or complacency on the part of the players.
Of course, it is not possible for Alex Ferguson to come back as United coach but since his departure, the only trophy United can boast of was the FA Cup won by Van Gaal.
They have featured in the Champions League only twice and have not come anywhere near winning the Premier League title. Even the once rampant Wayne Rooney under Fergie has become a shadow of himself.
It can be said that it took Fergie four years to win his first trophy as United boss but he didn’t spend up to what the coaches after him had spent and will still spend. Like £300 million was spent during the spells of Moyes and Van Gaal in what could pass for a waste of investment so far.
One can go and on, on how United have declined since the departure of arguably their best manager, Ferguson. A transformation and resurgent is needed.
The Scottish man won 13 Premier League titles for United, 2 Champions League trophies and many FA Cups, League Cups, Community Shield and individual honours including making Man United to become the first English club to produce World Best Footballer in Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.
