Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen in bringing back former and Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen back to the club.

Vermaelen left Arsenal the north London side in the summer of 2014 when the La Liga club showed a strong interest in signing him, but the Belgian was big fans favourite in his first couple of seasons at the Emirates.

However, consistent injury followed by a succession of mistakes on the pitch left him struggling to get into the first-team, with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny quickly forming a rather formidable partnership at the heart of the defence for the Gunners.

Wenger is still a big admirer of Vermaelen and, according to Sport, if the Belgian defender can prove his fitness to the Gunners gaffer, he could re-signed back to the Emirates this summer.

There are also reports claiming Roma had apparently been the first to make a formal offer for the 30-year-old’s services, but the Catalans turned it down as it didn’t match their asking price; Barca are expecting a bid of £10 million.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing at least two more players this summer, with Gonzalo Higuain and Nevan Subotic the leading targets at the moment, though Vermaelen could be a cheaper and better acquisition with the ex-Gunners star having previously captaining and establishing good relationship with employees at the club.

Let’s take a look at some of his best moment while at Emirates stadium and away:
