United have already added the pair of Diogo Dalot and Fred to the team, but the imminent arrival of Ivan Perisic is one that has United dreaming of glory once again.

The added fact that the likes of Victor Lindelof and Alexis Sanchez are in their second seasons at the club mean that they will get better and help the cause of the team. Mourinho chased the signing of Perisic last year but was rebuffed by Inter Milan.

His direct running caused England all sorts of problems in the semifinals and duly won the Man of the Match by registering a goal and an assist. The potential frontline of Perisic, Sanchez and Lukaku will torment opposition defences but the Belgian striker will be most delighted with the arrival of the Croatian.

After an excellent start to his Old Trafford career, Lukaku tailed off in the middle of the campaign as the support cast struggled to carve out chances for him. Perisic is a direct player that stretches opposition teams and is fantastic crosser of the ball. His performances at the World Cup have left United fans purring about the impact he would have shoot he complete his move. United struggled on many occasions last term as teams sat deep defending. Perisic will add bite, pace and directness to the forward line as well as helping out defensively.

United ended trophyless last term despite playing some breathtaking football at the beginning of the season. Not quite Gareth Bale-esque, he offers perhaps the closest thing to Ryan Giggs as one marauding left footer on that left flank. Everything is primed for Manchester United to win the title come next year but Perisic could be the one that completes the puzzle. We can’t wait.
