According to Calcio Napoli, Manchester City could agree a £59m deal with Napoli for Jorginho. Manager Pep Guardiola is keen to sign the Brazilian-born Italian international to bolster the midfield next season after Yaya Toure left the club at the end of his contract this summer.
Jorginho has contributed 20 goals in 160 appearances for Napoli in all competitions since his 2014-move from Hellas Verona, winning the 2013/14 Coppa Italia and 2014/15 Supercoppa. The 26-year-old could be on the move, however, as City look to bring the midfielder to the Etihad to join David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho and Fabian Delph.
The Sky Blues won the League Cup and the Premier League title with 100 points from 38 games last season, but they underperformed in the Champions League quarter-final to Liverpool – losing 5-1 on aggregate to Jurgen Klopp’s side – which may be why Guardiola wants to bring in new recruits.
Jorginho would be a stellar signing, with the eight-cap international average a tackle or interception every 24 minutes in the Serie A last season, while creating 49 chances and boasting a 67% dribble success rate. The midfielder also averages 97 passes-per-game with 90% accuracy so it’s not hard to see why Pep wants him so much.
