According to a report published by the Daily Mail, Leicester City had wanted Patrick Roberts who is on loan at Celtic as Part of a deal which would see Riyad Mahrez join Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s side best offer for the 2016 BBC African Player of the Year towards the end of the transfer window was reportedly a £50 million plus Roberts as makeweight to sign the Algerian star.
Mahrez is spending a second season on loan with Celtic and has had to miss the majority of this season through injury and has gone on to registered 12 appearances so far for the Scottish champions.
Roberts did however play a key role in terms of helping Brendan Rodgers’ side win the domestic treble unbeaten last season and this obviously indicates that Leicester rate him highly.
From a Celtic point-of-view, it is good that Roberts did not end up leaving Celtic as he is likely to end up playing a key role for the club towards the end of the season.
Roberts has netted 18 goals for Celtic and helped the club win two leagueb titles, one Scottish Cup and a League Cup in his first season with Celtic.
The winger started his career with Fulham and joined the current EPL leaders for a fee of about £12m in 2015. In total, Roberts has made 25 senior appearances in English club football.
However, the England Under-20 international has played a total 70 games for Celtic.
