Newcastle’s in-form captain Jamaal Lascelles has put pen to paper on a new six-year contract that will seem at St James’ Park until 2023 – and Magpies fans are delighted with the reports.
Lascelles’ new contract comes after a string of brilliant performances that have helped boost Rafael Benitez’s side up to ninth in the Premier League and just three points off the top four.
The news was announced on the official Newcastle Twitter page on Friday afternoon:

The Englishman joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest in 2014 for £4.5million before being loaned straight back for the season.
Since then Lascelles’s registered 75 appearances for the club including 43 in the Championship last season where he helped push them to the title.
He’s been excellent in the Premier League, with two match-defining goals on top of his solid performances at the back.

Southampton FC will welcome Newcastle United to St Mary’s Stadium in their first game back in the Premier League on October 14 after the international break.
