Karren Brady has admitted that Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge is the only English striker with the talent of Harry Kane, while adding that the Englishman’s normally found on the bench for Liverpool.
Talking in her column in the Sun, Brady heaped praises on Kane saying that the Spurs striker represent an old-school style of player built around hard work and common sense.
She added that Kane’s a throwback in an industry that rewards style and entertainment, and prices attackers way above defenders and goalkeepers.
“Some of us thought Manchester United’s £89million for midfielder Paul Pogba and City’s £50m for right-back Kyle Walker were signs the market pecking order was levelling out.
“Then up popped Paris Saint-Germain to splash out £360m on forwards Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The old order had readjusted.
“Entertainment was again rewarded ahead of industry. Clean sheets are loved by coaches, football educators and teams who can’t score.
“I guess that’s why so many people like to watch Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool — they are full of swashbucklers.
“Even Daniel Sturridge, perhaps the only English striker with Kane’s talent, is seen far more often in one of those comfy seats that have replaced the old-style bench than on the field.”

Daniel Sturridge has only started three from seven Premier League games for Liverpool this season, and he only started in the whole of the 2016/17 season. The ex-Chelsea striker starts more for England when he’s fit than he does for his club. Brady talks about his talent and compares him to Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but we’re not sure many people would hold with that view. Without any doubts, Sturridge is talented, but he puts in way too many inconsistent performances to come anywhere close to Kane. Perhaps he needs a different club and a different manager.
Sturridge doesn’t seem to interest Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and he showed another poor performance in the Reds draw with Newcastle on Sunday. That could see him down the pecking order again for an extended period and it might get him thinking about a January move. Sturridge facing the exit door at Anfield could actually be the best for both parties. He’d be a first-choice striker at most other clubs in the Premier League – including West Ham United, who ironically might be in the market for a new striker themselves. And we might then get to see whether Brady’s assessment of him is correct.
