Arsenal fans have seriously highly hopes their record-signing of the summer, Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman arrived from Lyon for a club-record £46.5 million fee earlier this month in a hugely important deal for Arsene Wenger.
The north London club boss will be heavily reliant on his compatriot to maintain his deadly eye for goal in England and fire them towards Premier League and Champions League contention.
The former Lyon star has got his Arsenal career off to a promising start with goals against Sydney FC and Sevilla – though only in pre-season friendlies.
But having scored 37 goals in 43 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants last season, the rapid striker provides plenty of cause of hopefulness around the Emirates ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
He is set to get his first taste of ‘competitive’ action for the Gunners when they face Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley next Sunday.
Like of most of teammates, Lacazette struggled to influence proceedings when his side played the Blues in Beijing last weekend.
Having suffered a 3-0 to the only domestic opposition the 26-year-old has faced in an Arsenal shirt so far, he will be eager to prove he’s not out of his depth against the likes of Antonio Conte’s side.
One would be hard-pressed to find an Arsenal fan who isn’t excited to see him do just that, but not everyone is convinced he’s a natural fit for the Premier League.
David Seaman recognizes the potential he has within him to take the English top-flight by storm, yet insists he may need time to find his feet.
The former Arsenal and England goalkeeper told Goal: “It will be difficult for him to get used to the Premier League,”
“A lot of new signings find it difficult to settle because they don’t realise how fast and how physical it is, and how fast the games come round.
“Sometimes you’re playing two or three times a week. He will get used to it – from what I’ve seen he does look quality.”
Although he certainly has the speed to match even the pacy Premier League strikers, but remains to be seen if that will be enough to see him emulate some of the greatest Arsenal players of all-time.
Some Gunners believe he boasts shades of the club legend Ian Wright – a comparison Seaman considers to be unjustified at this stage.
“People said he reminds them of Ian Wright, but he has to score a few more goals to remind me of him!”
In all fairness, Alexandre Lacazette has big boots fill at the Emirates.
