Liverpool, known to be one of the weakest team in Premier League top-6 have had a major turnaround as they are now in a champion League spot all thanks to Jurgen Klopp’s hard work. The manager has been planning to add more depth to the squad and this has seen him linked to some exciting names. Jamie Redknapp, former Red and current TV pundit, in an interview with Daily Mail dropped a name he thinks Klopp should target this summer – Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-Min Son.

The South Korean winger arrived at Tottenham at the start of previous season from Leverkusen, but he is yet to break into the first team under Mauricio Pochettino and the manager has only just began to have some faith in him. Son has notched up 15 goals in 55 league appearances at the Lane but has found it difficult to become the team’s first choice and next season does not look too bright for him at the club. Harry Kane would definitely retain his position as the first choice striker for the Spurs while Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are not in any hurry to leave the club. Every player’s dream is to play consistently for their side, but Son has been unable to achieve that and he might be looking for a possible way out of the club. How well will he fit at Anfield?

Son got called up to the South Korea senior team and has made 50 appearances for the national side since them.  He is a utility player who can play in any part of the midfield and also as a striker. He is a versatile attacker due to his ability to use both feet equally well and will go a long way in solving some problems afflicting the Reds squad.  Though not a strong player, and cannot be expected to win balls in the air, his hard working nature, which would piss off defenders,  makes up for what he lacks in strength and this will endear him more to Klopp.

Defensive wise, he might not meet the Reds requirement but Son can add width to Liverpool, something that has been difficult for the Reds to achieve even with Mane in the side. Son can play on both side of the flanks and can also be the ideal replacement for Firmino.

Redknapp is of the opinion that Liverpool are in dire need of a player who can score goals when nothing is happening and Son seem to fit the bill. If Redknapp is right, then Klopp should add him to his wish list. Son’s role at Anfield will be limited to being a backup for injured first team players just like his present role at the Lane this season. He is a viable target but not quite a necessity at Anfield this summer.
