Here are three reasons why Manchester United can beat Arsenal to a top-four finish

Jose Mourinho knows how to win

United’s manager Jose Mourinho openly described Gunners manager Arsene Wenger as a specialist in failure during the Portuguese manager press conference in the latest episode of his long-running feud with the Gunners manager.

While it seems unfair description of a head coach who has won the Premier League titles and countless domestic cup, one would back United manager to find a way to win when his side is struggling and not Wenger when the stakes are high.

The Emirates club haven’t missed out on a Champions League place in over 20 years, but looking are how Manchester United are breathing down their necks, you wouldn’t be amazed if the Gunners irresolute form proves to be United’s gains.

Ibrahimovic’s goals

Has there been any better value signing than Zlatan Ibrahimovic for this Red Devils this season? I don’t think so. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward has seen the net 15 times in 21 games this season and that’s only in the Premier League.

Considering many of his critics, the Swedish legend impressive run had suggested he could struggle in England given his age. Well, that’s not proven the case. While Ibra movement is limited, he has proven clinical in the area and has spurred the performances of his team-mates.

On the other side, there is no doubting that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are quality players, however, they don’t quite inspire fans as Ibrahimovic does. When the Gunners need a talisman, the duo are nowhere to be found.

Momentum

As we approach the end of the season, United have the momentum heading into the business. They are yet to lost a Premier League game since their 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in October. One cannot deny this is an impressive record. The Gunners as well, have enjoyed a great unbeaten run this same season but have struggled with consistency in December and January.

Back to back defeats from Everton and Manchester City prevented Wenger’s side from moving clear of the chasing pack and gain ground on leaders Chelsea. While coming from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 draw at Bournemouth was a morale boosting result despite failing to secure three points, Arsenal slipped up again on Tuesday night.

Chelsea are nine points clear of Arsenal after their 2-1 loss to Watford and you’d have to say a title push is looking unlikely now. It’s a question of whether Arsenal can hang on for a top- four finish. If you’re going on momentum, Manchester United would be the tip.
