Zenit St Petersburg lie in wait in the last 32, but you would be hard pressed to know a vital game is upcoming, judging by the smiles at training at Lennoxtown on Wednesday.

It’s been a tough couple of months for the Premiership champions, but Brendan Rodgers will be aiming for the latest signature result of his wildly successful 18-month spell in charge.

Here’s five things Record Sport spotted from today’s session ahead of the big match.

There was a noticeable spectator at training as former Swansea and Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk watched alongside Rodgers. Monk was a veteran presence in South Wales during the Celtic manager’s successful spell with the Swans. The manager is currently out of work, but has taken the chance to pick the brains of his mentor as he gears up for a pivotal game. Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher described Rodgers as the best British manager this week and the visit of Monk is a testament to the respect the Celtic boss boasts within coaching circles.
