Manchester City now sits at the fifth spot of the Premier League after the fine run of result of the team as of late. Pep Guardiola, who became man city manager in February 2016 has made changes to the squad and he’s still in a bid to sign more players at the end of this season. Portuguese midfielder, William Carvalho appears to be his choice for a midfielder.
Carvalho is one of the best midfielder in Europe and almost every Premier League big club has shown interest in him. Still, Guardiola is determined to challenge the offers of every other club.
The 24-year old EURO16 winner is capable of playing as a central midfielder and also a defensive role but he is always at his best when playing as a midfielder. His style of play would go well along with Man City’s style. Carvalro is an excellent dribbler but his major strength lies in his determination to always be in possession of the ball.
He is a player that risk everything just to bring in a goal, his level of concentration on the pitch is unrivaled. This and his ability to break up play in the midfield are the attribute that got Guardiola’s attention. Carvalho would be an improvement to the likes of Fernando, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure who also plays as a midfielder at Etihad.
Carvalho’s time at Sporting Clube de Portugal has been a huge success for him and he has won the EURO16 with the Portugal national football team. Although his experience is limited to his home country, Guardiola is the best option for him to make his debut season away from his home country. He might find it difficult to adjust at first to the intense way of the Spanish manager but at 24, he still has time ahead of him and he would definitely improve the City squad at the Etihad.
Guardiola needs to strive hard to get Carvalho before he is snatched up by other clubs as he would come handy in the next season.
