Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been stalling on singing a new contract at the club. There have been different speculations and reports concerning his future at the Emirates. The German playmaker had been reported to be demanding an increase in excess of £200,000 per week, among others.
The 28-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal at the club alongside Alexis Sanchez who has also not agreed to a new contract at Arsenal. The pair has been offered huge wages from other clubs in the Premier League, Europe and China but Wenger has insisted the duo will remain at the club.
However, Ozil has come up with another condition for him to remain at the club beyond not season. The former Real Madrid star while speaking with German outlet Kicker has stated that he will only sign a new contract if Wenger will sign a new contract at the club.
But with Wenger’s future at the club still uncertain there is also a doubt about Ozil committing his future with the club, even though he has reiterated that he is happy at the club.
But the bottom line remains that both Ozil and Sanchez are stalling on the new contracts because their demands in terms of wages have not been met. They are both on £140,000 and £130,000 per week respectively and are holding out for almost a double of their current wages. And Wenger has remained undaunted to bend the wage structure to suit the demands of his star players.
