Chelsea’s player of the year Willian Borges da Silva, commonly known Willian, has committed his future to the Blues yesterday by signing a new four-year contract with Stamford Bridge outfits.
The 27-year-old Brazilian is extending his stay with the Blues until 2020 following an excellent 2015-16 season in which he was voted Chelsea’s best player of the year by both fans and his team-mates.
The player himself said, “I’m very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. It’s a dream to continue with this club and over the next four years I will try to help the team win more trophies.”
‘It’s been an amazing time for me since I joined the club three years ago, I’ve won titles and last season I was named Chelsea Player of the Year.
‘I hope to be able to stay at that level during the coming seasons and achieve more success.’
The Blues technical direct Michael Emenalo added to it,
‘We are very pleased to agree a new long-term deal with Willian, who has proved himself to be an important player for the team since he arrived here.
We are looking forward to seeing his continued impact as we begin an exciting new campaign under first-team head coach Antonio Conte.’
The highly skilled Brazilian arrived at the Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013, establishing himself as a mainstay in the team, thanks to his ability on the ball, allied with a strong work ethic.
In 2014/15, the former Shakhtar Donetsk and Anzhi Makhachkala man played a key role as Chelsea won the Capital One Cup and Premier League titles during his second campaign.
He caught the eye last term with six set-piece goals before the end of October, following those up with memorable strikes against Porto and Crystal Palace before representing Brazil at this summer’s Copa America.
He returned to Cobham on Monday as Chelsea begin preparations for the 2016/17 campaign. So far, Willian has made 140 Chelsea appearances, scoring 19 times for the Blues.
