The 2016 summer transfer window is now open for business so Football Weeks will bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe.
Today, Manchester United are being linked with Chelsea’s highly-rated midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
New Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is plotting an audacious raid on the former club – Chelsea FC – in the hope of landing midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer, according to reports from the Mirror.
Mourinho has already splashed out the cash on defender Eric Baily, attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and a new forward in Zlantan Ibrahimovic in recent weeks as he looks forward to overhaul the Red Devils squad left behind by former boss Louis van Gaal this summer.
However, the 53-year-old Portuguese international is expected to strengthen the United midfield options and it seems like the so-called ‘Special One’ is looking forward to be reunited with Fabregas at the Old Trafford after making him one of his prime targets.
The report from Mirror went on to say Mourinho is now interested in signing the Spaniard just two years after he brought him to Chelsea from Barcelona in a deal reported to be worth £27m and he is prepared to wait to see what Chelsea new manager’s Antonio Conte’s plans are for midfielder before launching his swoop.
The Blues boss officially began working at Chelsea yesterday but the Italian strategist has already been making changes. The word behind the scenes on his summer transfer plans suggest that the central-midfield is one area the Italian boss wil focus on.
The report from Mirror also claim Conte is looking to bring in more steel and energy in the middle of the park with N’Golo Kante targeted along with Roma’s Radja Nainggolan, Valencia’s Andre Gomes, and Sporting Lisbon’s Joao Mario.
Should the Italian coach be successful in signing two of these targets that would see Fabregas become surplus to requirements and it appears Mourinho is waiting to offer the Spanish international a fresh start in the north-west.
The Spaniard enjoyed an excellent first season back in England with Chelsea, having helped the Blues march to the Premier League title. However, the 29-year-old endured a far more difficult campaign last season as Chelsea limped to a mid-table finish.
The Red Devils could certainly do with another central midfielder as Michael Carrick is coming towards the end of his career and he won’t be able to play regularly, while Bastian Schweinsteiger has struggled with injuries.
Therefore, the Portuguese will be hoping to get the Spaniard back to his best if he’s able to lure him back to the Old Trafford.
However, we will have to wait and see whether the Spaniard will be in Conte’s first-team plans for next season, but it would be a surprise if Chelsea agreed to do business with a direct rival like Manchester United, should the Italian coach agree to let Fabregas leave this summer.
