Eyebrows were raised when Man United decided to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer this summer. There were assumptions that the 35-year-old is too old for the rigours and the physical demand of the Premier League but he has quashed such doubts with his performances.
He experienced a temporary blip at a point in time and even during that period, It was only the goal drought, his performances were still good. The Swedish striker has since rediscovered himself and he is on fire again.
He has scored 11 goals in his last ten games for United and he is not showing any sign of slowing down yet. He recently likened himself to a fine red wine and that he feels like a 20-year-old. He just reached the 450 career goal milestone and have always carried his team with his goals, including his assists.
Impressively, he has scored 50 goals this year. He would have scored more than that had it been that he did not miss those sitters for United. 17 goals out of the 50 are for Man United.
And with other league on winter break, IBRA can overtake Lionel Messi’s record for the number of goals scored this year. The Barcelona forward has scored 51 goals for the year 2016 and will not play again until January given Ibra the chance to overtake him if he scores two goals against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Other scorers for the year are Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roberto Lewandowski and Edison Cavani with 48, 42, 39 and 36 goals respectively.
