Manchester City v Arsenal : Preview, Team News & Prediction

Manchester City v Arsenal

Manchester City will play host to Arsenal in one of Premier League’s mouthwatering fixtures on Sunday.

The Cityzens were surprisingly defeated by Newcastle United during the week which dent their hope of winning the Premier League title for the second time in a row.

Nonetheless, they would be hoping to return to winning ways against the Gunners on Sunday as anything short of maximum points could mean the end of their title hope.

As for Arsenal, Unai Emery’s men are inconsistent in recent weeks but they will hope to overturn the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture which was played in August last year.

Emery’s men are on two-match winning streak ( 2-0 victory over Chelsea last week and 2-1 win over Cardiff on Tuesday) and they are targeting another win at Etihad stadium so as to bolster their chances of qualifying for European competition next season.

TEAM NEWS

Manchester City

Claudio Bravo and Vincent Kompany are yet to recover from their respective injuries, therefore, they are unavailable for selection.

Benjamin Mendy is back to full fitness after missing out of action in their unexpected 2-1 defeat to the Magpies last during the week.

Mendy is ready for action but it remains unknown whether Pep Guardiola will want to risk the defender in such a high-profile encounter.

Arsenal

There are no fresh injury concerns for Unai Emery but he will be without some key members of his team due to injury.

Hector Bellerin is out due to knee injury which would rule him out of action for at least nine months.

Rob Holding is equally out of the encounter as result of (knee) injury. Danny Welbeck is out of the season with an ankle injury.

Summer signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos won’t be in action against the Sky Blues because of an ankle injury which will keep him out of action for two to three weeks.

Predictions

Considering their respective goalscoring abilities, Manchester City are likely to score large number of goals on Sunday.

The Citizens have found the back of the net 29 times in just 8 games in all competitions, hence, they could run riot against Arsenal’s leaky defence.

However, the Gunners are not pushovers and they will love to prove a point at Etihad stadium by outscoring their opponent on Sunday.

They will rely solely on Aubameyang’s goalscoring prowess as the Gabonese can pull the trigger against any team in the world.

All in all, Manchester City will take the day by two goals to one.
