Liverpool agree deal with AS Monaco for Fabinho

Liverpool confirm they have agreed a deal with AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho. The 24-year-old, whom Manchester United and Arsenal had been linked with, has signed a long-term deal with the Merseysiders and will be a replacement for Emre Can who is expected to join Juventus at the end of his contract this summer.

After a two-year loan spell at Monaco, Fabinho permanently left Rio Ave in 2015 and made 104 league appearances in all competitions. The Brazilian international, who has represented his country on four occasions, won the Ligue 1 title with the French side in 2016/17 and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League the same season.

Liverpool have already sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer and have now added Fabinho to their midfield to go some way to replacing Can. The German international is leaving the club for Juve as his contract is expiring and he opted not to sign an extension.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is blessed with strength in depth in the engine room, with Georginio Wijnaldum, Keita, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Jordan Henderson as Liverpool’s midfield option for next season, as Liverpool seek to challenge for the Premier League title and go deep in the Champions League.
