Heung-min Son :- Premier League’s most underrated striker

Heung-min Son

English Premier League is arguably the best league in the world due to its popularity among football fans; the quality of players it possess and it competitive nature.

This season has seen many strikers lived up to expectations and fans can’t stop singing their praises.

Sergio Aguero, who scored three goals against Chelsea last weekend has been the talk of the town. His teammate Raheem Sterling – who also had a brace in Chelsea’s onslaught – is equally getting a fair share of praise from pundits and fans across the world.

Rejuvenated Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are being praised for their performances throughout United’s 11-game undefeated run which was ended by Paris Saint-German on Tuesday.

The likes Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eden Hazard, Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino often receive deserved praise from their respective fans.

However, Tottenham’s wonder striker Heung-min Son surprisingly get little praise despite his inspiring showing for the North London club.

The South Korean star has been scoring goals for fun since his return from the Asian cup in January but he has received little or no praise from Premier League fans.

In yesterday’s 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, the 26-year-old scored a well-controlled side-foot volley to open the scoring line for Spurs.

That was his fourth goal in three consecutive matches and it was surprising that only small factions of this media are saying something about the player’s importance to Mauricio Pochetino’s side.

He has 11 Premier League goals so far this season and has singlehandedly shouldered the goalscoring responsibilities of the team due to the absence of his partners in crime Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

Apart from his impressive goalscoring abilities, Son often show determination to see his side win matches even if he fail to find the back of the net.

His determination for success, saw him progressed from being a regular substitute — in his first season at White Hart Lane in 2015 — to being an inspirational figure in the team.

It is often said that a striker must be selfish to be among the best players in the world but Son is never selfish, though, he sometimes decide to shoot from long distance which ends up in the sky.

All in all, Son is a player who deserves more credits than what he’s getting from the fans and pundits.
