Davie Hay: Rodgers to drop Sinclair for Patrick Roberts in Celtic XI

Davie Hay has written in The Glasgow Evening Times that he believes Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will drop out-of-form winger Scott Sinclair for Patrick Roberts when he’s back.

Roberts, who is on-loan from Premier League side Manchester City has been out of action since November 29 with a hamstring injury and was initially ruled out of action until March but he looks well ahead of schedule.

However, the young winger who is back on his feet has been showing series of promising encouraging pictures from the club’s winter break in Dubai and this appears to show he’s back.

Sinclair, who bagged the Scottish Premiership Player of the Year last season, has not been impressive in most matches this season.

He has only scored 15 goals from 34 games across all competitions for the team this season, which means he has a ways to go before he equals his impressive tally of 25 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions last season. Another player also in line for regular first team football is James Forrest, who has bagged 10 goals this season, is going from strength to strength under Rodgers.

Davie Hay believe that Rodgers might drop Sinclair to field a lineup comprising of Forrest and Roberts, when the latter returns from injury.

He told The GET:

“Patrick Roberts’ return to full fitness might solve a dilemma for Brendan Rodgers.

“I just wonder if the fact that Scott Sinclair has not quite hit the heights of last season might encourage Rodgers to play James Forrest on one side and Roberts on another.

“Roberts did not arrive until nearer the end of the transfer window after a long summer of negotiating and will be determined to get a strong second half of the campaign in after spending the last few months on the outside looking in.”
