Brendan Rodgers provides injury update on Hoops striker Leigh Griffiths

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he uncertain as to when Scotland international and Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths will be fit again.

Griffiths scored the winning goals in Celtic’s back-to-back matches against Partick Thistle and Hibernian but the No. 9 suffered a calf injury in the win over the Edinburgh side.

The Scottish forward has endured a roller-coaster season with form and injuries while making a major contribution to Celtic reaching the group phase of the Champions League.

A fortnight after Griffiths got injured against Hibs, the Northern Irishman told the Evening Times:

“He is still out but he is responding to treatment. I am not 100% sure when he will be back.

“It is unfortunate. He got into a good little rhythm there and then broke down. It was unfortunate bit you seen his frustration the day it happened and there is no-one more frustrated than him.

“He had come into the team just after having to sit out because he had come back from Dubai and was due to start but was injured for that game [Brechin] so we just have to deal with it.”

Since Leigh Griffiths exit, Celtic have been fielding Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard upfront with the French duo both scoring in the win over Hearts then losing to Kilmarnock.

With Zenit St Petersburg, Aberdeen and Sevco to be faced over the next month, getting the striker back to full fitness would be a massive boost for Celtic’s hopes.

He has so far scored 97 goals in 170 appearances across all competition for Celtic since his move Wolves in January 2014.
