Bale and Ronaldo stunned Deportivo at Santiago Bernabeu

Gareth Bale and Christiano Ronaldo scored double for Real Madrid as they thumped a 7-1 victory over the 18- positioned Deportivo on this Sunday. This win at Santiago Bernabeu is the biggest win for the team in the whole season.

During the initial part of the game when Adrian Lopez scored first against the hosts, it looked like the Los Blancos were in trouble again. However, the initial spark from Nacho ignited all the blaze for the Real side to grab such a dominant victory. Bale scored twice and so did Ronaldo with the final goal coming from Nacho again.

Such a complete dominance in the game was reminiscent of their win against Sevilla which they won last month by 5-0. However, the team’s performance slumped right after the Club World Cup, losing matches to Barcelona and Villarreal while equalizing with Celta Vigo and Numancia.

Real were already pushed down to the fourth position in La Liga and therefore, no one was expecting such an emphatic win. Aware of this, Deportivo were trying to pressurize Real by attacking them from very early on. It seemed to work when they got the lead in the 23th minute. Florian Andone headed the ball towards Lucas whose perfect cross went home through the Lopez tap in.

Real Madrid responded with good attack. Cristiano Ronaldo almost scored when he headed the cross from Marcelo but Ruben tipped the ball away in a brilliant fashion. However, it was not long before one more pass from Marcelo gave Nacho the perfect opportunity to level the scores.

Then just before the half time, they managed to strike one more goal. After collecting the cross from Marcelo, Gareth Bale curled in a perfect shot to extend the lead. The next goal came off the feet of Bale again, whose header left no chance for Ruben to stop as Real soared to 3-1 then.

By now, Real had poised themselves for an easy win and could play without any pressure. In the 68th minute, Luka Modric scored a goal through the clever back heel set up by Ronaldo.

If anything was missing in this game for Real Madrid, it certainly was a Ronaldo goal whose performance hadn’t been up to the par recently. It came in the 78th minute, and then again in the 84th minute. However, the second goal came at a cost for him. While scoring, Ronaldo’s face collided with Schar of Deportivo, and therefore he left the ground with a cut. By the end, Real had scored seven goals, the last one coming off the feet of Nacho.

Although Real is still placed at the same position in the La Liga table, still such a win could go a long way in boosting their confidences. They will now face Leganes in the Copa del Rey.
