Five Premier League clubs will compete for Europe’s most prestigious club prize this season. Manchester United’s victory over Ajax in the Europa League final ensured they will be competing for the Champions League.
However, the route to the final in Kiev could prove longer for some clubs than others.
Here’s the breakdown on the draw dates for the Champions League and which sides the English clubs could face in the competition.

Liverpool take a 2-1 lead over Hoffenheim in their play-ff as the Reds aim to get in next Friday’s group stage draw. Their second leg is on Wednesday August 23.

English clubs seeds for the Champions League draw
The Pot One contains Champions League reigning champions and the champions of the top seven league across Europe.
Therefore Chelsea are guaranteed to be in pot one for the draw.
Pots 2, 3 and 4 contain the remaining teams, seeded on their club coefficiant ratings. Manchester City and Manchester United are guaranteed to be in pot 2.
Tottenham are in pot 3, as their co-efficient ranking is lower than Europa League winners United.
Who could Chelsea play in the Champions League?
Antonio Conte’s side could face Barceona, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund or FC Porto.
Roma, RB Leipzig, Basel, Feyenoord and Anderlecht are to be considered possibilities.

The Red Devils could be drawn with cup holders Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, Monaco or Spartak Moscow.
There are also chances of Jose Mourinho’s side welcoming Roma, RB Leipzig, Basel, Feyenoord and Anderlecht to Old Trafford.

Like their rivals United, Man City are in pot two and face the prospect of playing the same teams.
Therefore they will definitely play one of the following: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, Monaco or Spartak Moscow.
They will also draw Roma, RB Leipzig, Basel, Feyenoord or Anderlecht.

A total of 20 teams play in the play-off round but because the Reds are seeded for the draw, it would mean they will play a weaker opposition.
