A loanee from Chelsea to a club like Fullham cannot be expected to stay beyond the season. They are usually young players with potential of being a hit in Europe. But Brazilian Lucas Piazon proved to be an exception.
At 23-year old, having made just one appearance for the Blues, it’s quite unimaginable to see him play alongside the world class Liverpool players. With the number of amazing talents at Chelsea and the probability of more joining in the summer, Piazon seems to be at the end of his Stamford Bridge career.
Piazon transferred to Chelsea from Sao Paolo at age 17 and played in their reserve team in 2011. After one year in the reserve team and one appearance for the senior team, he was loaned out to Spanish La Liga side Malaga, where he made 11 appearances, until the end of the season. He’s also had season-long loan spell at clubs like Vitesse, Eintracht Frankfurt and Reading before he finally joined Fullham. His time at all these clubs make him seem like a player on a voyage.
All those loan spells for five years without returning to Chelsea training ground shows Antonio Conte has little or no use for him. Piazon must take all care to ensure his career does not come to an abrupt end. Now that he can lay claim to more goals, it is safe to assume he is enjoying his stay at Fullham and the Championship.
Though he’s not qualified to be a Chelsea player right now, the Brazillian attacker would be a great addition to a championship club. Despite being sidelined for a while after he fractured his jaw, Piazon found the net five times and set up two goals in 23 games in the Championship this season. Fullham needs to retain their creative players, as they might find themselves in the second tier again next season and they would need all the help they can get to get promoted to the Premier League. Losing a versatile player could spell doom for a club and Fullham would do well to take a firm grip on Lucas Piazon.
