Liverpool title race is finally over and a top four finish even looks bleak as their disastrous start to the New Year continued following their 0-2 loss to Hull City on Saturday.

The Reds are yet to win in the league since the turn of the year and despite the return of Saido Mane’s to the starting line-up their performance was nothing to write home about and they were condemned to their fourth defeat in five matches across all competitions.

Now 13 points behind league leaders, Liverpool in the past 14 days have been eliminated from the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, and seen their hopes of a first league title since 1990 all but quashed.

Interestingly, Liverpool are unbeaten in seven games against the top six clubs but have lost to lower teams like Swansea, Bournemouth, Burnley and now Hull City.

With the return of the team key forward; Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino all starting and Adam Lallana returned to his most effective role in midfield, nothing short of a win was expected from the Reds.

But Macro Silva has revitalised the Tigers since his appointment and they have won all their home matches, including a semi-final win over Man United in the EFL.

Alfred N’Diaye put Hull ahead a minute before half time and Oumar Niasse doubled sealed the victory six minutes from the end, kept their first home clean sheet in the Premier League this term.

A win for Man City today will push Liverpool out of the top four. They face Tottenham in their next league match and only a win can give them any hope of a champions league spot.
