Without a doubt, this season has been an unmemorable one for Barcelona. The Catalans failed to pick up a single trophy this season although they still have one more shot at a trophy in their upcoming game against Alaves in the Copa Del Rey final. They bowed out of Champions League after an amateurish display against Juventus in both legs of the game. The likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez were powerless against Juventus’ invincible defence as the Catalan were paid back in their own coin.
They were also miserable in the La Liga, with Real Madrid claiming the title glory for themselves on the last day of the season. Barcelona topped the table for a while but Real Madrid overtook they as Real maintained their reigning power throughout the season. Luis Enrique recently announced that he will be leaving after this season and his exit will leave a vacuum at the Camp Nou.
Here we take a look at three players who has not been up to par and might face a tense summer.
The big money signing from Valencia has failed to fulfill his potential with the Catalans. He transferred to Barcelona with the expectation that he would be able to take up Andres Iniesta’s role perfectly but he has failed on all grounds. Although he had good technical skills and the right quality to succeed in the game but his style of play seemed at odds with the quick passing game of the Catalans. His slow pace has always been detrimental to any game he appears in.
Everyone thought the former Sevilla right-back would be the one that takes over from Dani Alves but that has not been the case so far. Right from the onset, he did not fit well into the team and Barcelona’s transfer policy is to blame for this. Vidal is currently on an injury enforced leave and his chances of staying beyond this season at the club are slim to none.
The absence of Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano has given voice to the defender and he has proved to be more than capable but it is time for him to move on. Being lead-footed, his display against Juventus in the first leg was so horrible he had to be replaced.
